Shared Workspaces

There are online sites which allow users to collaborate in real time, some don't even require an account or log in or to share a workspace. Many include drawing tools, options to bring in images, and save or print.

Practice

  • Go to your own www.scriblink.com site and start organizing your ideas. Share the site with at least one other person. The Voice Over IP option requires the installation of an applet from PhoneFromHere.com and may not be ideal using a wireless connection. Try the chat area to share your ideas. Text is "painted" so it can't be moved once added. A long URL provides by scriblink via email:http://www.scriblink.com/index.jsp?act=phome&ld=1&rid=4564&cid=6091 may be shortened to something more like: [[@http://bit.ly/scriblink ]]
Try bringing in an image such as the blank world map from: http://www.trumanlibrary.org/whistlestop/teacher_lessons/worldmap1.jpg
You must click off of it or press <Enter> before you can enter text on the map.
  • An alternative program also allows you to share a whiteboard with anyone. www.skrbl.com and start an online whiteboard. Add a "clip" (colored rectangle). Try to move it and change it. Add a symbol. Try contributing to my whiteboard www.skrbl.com/amann and share your thoughts about the differences between using a wiki and using Google Docs. Why whould I choose to use one over the other for student collaboration?

CoSketch
http://cosketch.com
Create a collaborative drawing document. Allows you to input images. Includes a library of some sample stamps. Sketch can be embedded into a site. The entering of text can be tricky. It seems to work best to type it elsewhere and paste it into sketch using CTRL + V. Recommend you use Firefox rather than Internet Explorer.
